I know that there should be tools to make it easier to publish content to Twitter/Bluesky/Mastodon, without doing the work thrice. Do you know a good one? Can you share your experience with using them? Thanks! I hope the new platforms are not gonna get ditched immediately…

Edit: Wow I didn’t expect that the solutions were often expensive and complex tools (with way too much “AI”).

@leraje So the interesting thing straight away is that Fedica seems to allow me to register my Friendica server using the ‘Mastodon’ channel - I didn’t have so much luck with Buffer

@leraje Thanks - Didn’t know about Fedica. I’ll have to add it to the list of supported services (I really need to start a new website) - The freeplan acutally looks quite good.

People might remember Tweepsmap. It was specifically for Twitter but after the API debacle they rebranded the fedica.

@LegoBrickOnFire I understand that #Postiz and #buffer buffer.com/social-media-terms/… say they support it. I still find it weird that #Hootsuite doesn’t appear to (I’m not a current user) and neither does #SproutSocial - What I find weird is that #marketers know the value of #ownedmedia and the challenges of #disintermediation that the big social networks cause for them - but there doesn’t really appear to be a good guide to managing #brands on #Activitypub - Ditto for #Government agencies

It’s a little jarring trying to read text on lemmy with embedded tags in the Friendica style. It feels like an advertisement.

Hashtags used to be placed inline due to character limits. That’s much less of an issue now, and many people place useful tags below their post to make their content easier to read while also remaining more discoverable.

@jonathan i sort of find the process of adding #hashtags part of my normal composition - as I mention a subject, place or thing etc. What if you could have the option.of viewing posts with the hashtags not displayed within the body but collected and displayed at the bottom? - #Friendica does the second part already in its webapp - perhaps this could.be an option for other UIs such as the native #Lemmy UI, the various flavours of #Racoon or the very good #Fedilab app.

I’ve always found hashtags to be completely useless because they’re almost always used to promote ads. Spent a few days playing around on Bsky and every single “feed” I added was just chock full of irrelevant porn ads. A lot of it was nasty shit.

You can selfhost it. The reason it’s expensive, is because of their AI stuff, I think.

We have accounts on Buffer and Later Social, but they don’t seem active. I’ll look into what you said about wordpress. maybe that’s the best option. (I hope we are using wordpress now and not that weird system… but I digressl

@LegoBrickOnFire Well if you are using Buffer then keep using it - that’s a start - (you can add a Mastodon channel) - Later social (is that later.com?) - Whats the website ? we can easily check. Honestly until (and yes I know I bang on) brands really learn the value of Owned media (which if you are using your own domain - then ActivityPub stuff is really something you own) - then they won’t understand the value of Activitypub. - I cringe everytime I see a brand/organisation Fediverse account not using its own domain. If you want them to not screw up - then I recommend a combination of their own server on their own domain and actually making an effort to engage on the topic area (without being spammy)

I will remember that. For now I don’t think I will suggest self-hosting a mastodon instance (that’s what you are suggesting, right?) because we are a small non-profit and the less complexity, the better :)

@LegoBrickOnFire Ok you have really tipped my interest - Where are you located and are you a #nonprofit or a #charity ? - Feel free to DM me details if you don’t want to post publically. I think your situation is really very typical - I’m interested in learning about your tech stack and how you approach things - This is a project I’ve discussed with a few partners already.

I haven’t had much experience with it myself. I shortly selfhosted it myself. I know it works for most social media, including Lemmy. Not sure about Mastodon and Blusky.

@LegoBrickOnFire What are they using for Posting now? The best option is to keep using what ever they use (if it supports ActivityPub). Beyond that I’ve wondered whether the next best approach is to start with a tool that replicates your posts On your own domain - The point being they you want to be authorative and not end up getting tied into any particular server.

I don’t actually know. Currently I believe that they just manually log into the accounts on instagram and twitter to do the posts. now, with more accounts to handle that approch might be harder

You might propose a transition plan in which the company continues posting using current channels while the details on exactly how these alternatives are integrated into the larger marketing strategy and day to day activities is worked out.

@DarkSpectrum @LegoBrickOnFire Oh definintely - There is no way that any organisation is going to abandon everything for just ActivityPub right now. Thats what makes sociamedia management tools so critical to the wider adoption of ActivityPub. There are two main channels for content - Those tools and CMSs - More of both that support ActivityPub are required.

Surprisingly, given my username, I don’t own any lego!

I chose the username after a professor made an analogy between (programming) tools and lego bricks. He introduced a tool a “This lego brick will turn out to be so good that it is litterally on fire”. I found it really funny, and now it’s my username :)
