I still just don’t understand something like the Log Cabin Republicans. You have to be a special kind of stupid.
Aren’t a lot of the people in Bulwark gay? I mean they are now anti-Taco, but I don’t know if they still cling to “conservative principles”, whatever the fuck that means beyond lowering taxes for the rich.
Y’know, gays are just normal people with a specific sexual orientation, and not all people make that sexual orientation their primary identity. Someone might be a swinger, but they don’t go around making that the first thing they want to be known for.
A person who happens to be gay, may think other things are more important to their personal identity, like their career, or their art, or their political perspective, and want those things to be what represents them to society, not their sexuality. Frankly, that’s how MOST people think. Very few people want their sexuality to be the first thing that others know them for.
As for gays being conservative working against their own self-interest? There’s no shortage of that, i.e. conservative minorities, immigrants, women, poor, sick, etc. Why are ANY of them voting MAGA?
I mean… I don’t generally consider my red hair to be the most important part of my personal identity. But if there were a political group who went out of their way to declare that red hair was a sign of demonic possession, I don’t think I would align myself with that particular group no matter how many of their platform points I agreed with.
This. There are people that want gays dead, or at least back in the closet, and subjected to being imprisoned for having the audacity to have consensual non-hetero sex. And certainly they want gays not to have any idea of rights, like being able to marry who they love, FFS.
I don’t think someone has to make it their primary identity, etc…but if a large group is specifically targeting you and wanting you to be treated as a second-class citizen (and in some examples, openly talking about having the government kill you), it needs to be taken seriously.
Too true. It’s emblematic of the fact that a shit ton of people don’t pick political affiliations based on any rational evaluation of what a group stands for.

I believe Log Cabin Republicans have deluded themselves into thinking that they are the “good ones”.

Thats how most gay people see it. But we’re no smarter than straight people unfortunately, and we’ve both got some real idiots in our ranks

Probably the most truthful statement here. Why do some gays vote MAGA? Why does ANYONE vote MAGA?
Okay Aaron Sorkin.
