There is one very specific area of DC where crime is actually rising. Maybe they should do something about that.

Basically you make as much news reports of every single notable crime committed by minorities, at any cost, even if it is cringe. Reports on every single politician who don’t think it means “it’s payback time”, trying to connect the dots to other crime cases, and both meme and anniversary posting to keep it in the mind of the public for a long time. This is how “Roma crime” became a hot topic in Hungary, where overreporting of “Roma crimes” slowly disappeared once Fidesz won save for the openly nazi kuruc info webshite (which has ties to Florida republicans), and apparently originates from nazi Germany.

Cause theres constantly crime in the news.
and no amount of explaining “None of this crime is local to us, if crime was as bad as you think it was, they wouldnt have to report on a minor incident from across the country to have a crime to report on the local news”, no amount of showing them falling crime rates, nothing, will convince them otherwise.
Cause they can only believe what they see and are told repeatedly, and the news…both local and national, is perfectly doing their part to make things seems worse than they are.
Its partly because of unnecessarily increased coverage… 3+ hours in the morning, an hour or more at lunch, then like 2+ hours at dinner, then again at 10pm… and thats not even accounting for the 24 hour news channels, and the regular channels breaking into regular programming for increasingly banal shit.
and partly because they have a vested interest in strife and mayhem because theres no profit in a 24 hour news coverage where the every our on the hour, the only report is “And nothing of concern happened today.”
Which is why they’ve bent over backwards sanewashing trump before the last election. a trump presidency is great for ratings because people turn in every day to see what new horror is being unleashed, and the media doesnt care how complicit they are in creating it.
Fear and hatred of out-group is a pretty core part of conservatism. They are bad people
This goes both ways to a certain extent. I fear and borderline hate rural people as much as rural people fear and hate city folks. The difference is I have no interest in telling rural people how to run their one horse towns, and I can largely avoid ever going to them. Rural people should show city people the same respect and let us run our own shit. If you think the city is scary then stay home. Same goes for suburbanite morons
There is a codependency between urban and rural areas that mean that one would not work as well without the other, so I hope we can all learn to be accepting of one another.
Urban centralization creates a lot of economic demand with high populations and benefits from efficiencies of scale, but has a higher cost to use land.
Rural areas are lower cost, and the expansive areas have lots of natural resources that can be extracted or be used to farm.
Economically, people may be pushed out of cities either because of the basic cost or cost of the area that people want for themselves, so I think it makes sense why they would grow to resent the cities, disregarding cultural differences.
I see you reacting to that perceived hostility as a second or third order effect, but all that does it create a deeper problem.
I definitely agree with everything you said, but I would say my distaste of rural people mostly is due to detesting their ignorance. City people are far more cosmopolitan, largely because we actually are around all types of people all the time, and being cosmopolitan is something that I think is a valuable trait in people. Rural people often lack that, largely just because rural areas are more homogeneous culturally, which isnt really their fault. However, what is their fault is that their lack of cosmopolitan attitude is generally what leads to them abusing or harming people that are a different race, sexuality, gender ideology, etc.
I cant think of an aspect of city people that is equivalent
I speculate that one equivalent is that city people tend to be more accustomed to manipulation and generally interacting with other humans, especially strangers. Your average rural person probably never meets strangers in a typical day. So if you’re a rural person in the city it’d be unbelievably overwhelming, forcing you into a defensive posture.
It also marks you as a rube. You might be perfectly intelligent and well educated but you’re vulnerable to being taken advantage of.
City people may come off as cold, manipulative, scary because of it. Unscrupulous people can take advantage of you more easily. You’re a mark.
