Back in the '90s this strip taught me that Americans don’t use the word “fringe”.
Yeah ‘fringe’ makes me think of these jackets:
Yeah, it’s odd that they apply it to jackets but not to hair doing the same thing.
They use it a lot in a political context.
No, I know the literal word exists (e.g. the TV show by that name). I mean that they don’t use it for hair.

Why do they have suitcases?
Those are lunchboxes. I see how one might make that mistake, given their size relative to the kids. Either the lunxhboxes are comically large or the kids are comically small.
i think it’s more that people expect lunchboxes to have rounded corners
