Today’s game is Final Fantasy 7. I picked this up on Steam after borrowing it from my local library a few years ago and playing like 7 chapters on PS4. That poor PS4 barely held together while running it. It sounded like a Jet Engine. I nearly wasn’t able to play this today due to my slow ass internet taking forever to download this though.

I really enjoyed my time with it the first time, despite being very mixed on Turn Base RPGs. I like the whole Realtime battle mechanic thing though. It kind of offsets the whole thing i have with Turn Base battles. Plus, it looks cool as fuck even if i do suck ass at it.

The boss fight with the Scorpion thing was hard. I feel like i’m missing something with the combat, maybe it’s just naturally hard though. There’s only one way to get better, and that’s practice. Maybe i’ll commit to trying to grind for the first time ever.

I particularly struggled with not getting hurt by the rockets from the fight. I could block them, but that still took some damage. Maybe i’m supposed to take damage while blocking? I’m not sure, so i’ll have to figure it out as i go i guess.

I only did Chapter 1 due to how short on time i was with how long it took to download, but i plan on doing a whole lot more (assuming i don’t struggle). The Scorpion Robot took a few attempts, so i’m assuming each boss will be a bit like that.

It takes a bit to get the swing of what’s happening in battles. It’s not real time and it’s not atb, the mix of the two is great.

I found myself really appreciating the updated content and perspective from the original, but you really don’t need to have played it before.

Every gamer who plays final fantasy knows the basics. Cloud and Arith good, Seperoth bad. But this one expands so much and includes a lot of the story from crisis core and other games in the series.

I get jealous of everyone replaying for the first time. But I’m still looking forward to hearing more about your journey.

I never played Remake, but when a YouTuber recently did a comparison video between some of their major scenes, I ended up respecting the original so much more.

A great one was when the plate falls. The original made directorial choices that emphasized the brutality of it all so much better, especially by choosing to cut the music. It just seems like Remake’s director was adding so many things simply because he could, making short and direct scenes so much worse by excess creation.

Of note, another JRPG from that general time period, Trails in the Sky, is being remade soon, and that one seemed quite a bit more faithful to me. Still taking liberties to change dialog, but only where it makes sense - they also greatly retooled the battle system with full respect for classic turntaking style.

I have not unfortunately. I tried to give it a try on the Xbox Re release but just couldn’t get into it. I want to go back and give it a try though some day
