THAT would ruin the magic and mystery. where is the fun in a predetermined space, without wonder and secrets? I personally find that very boring. Your mother may have known exactly what she will hide for the children birthday search quest thing, but you didn’t! And that’s what made it exciting. The lack of knowledge, the spicieness the mystery and magic around what it could be! That is exactly it.
