Summary
Trans communities across the U.S. are grappling with fear, uncertainty, and a surge in discrimination following Donald Trumpās election victory.
His Agenda 47 proposes federal bans on gender-affirming care and funding for āradical gender ideology,ā with broader attacks on LGBTQ+ rights.
Anti-trans rhetoric and violence have escalated, with crisis hotlines like The Trevor Project reporting a 700% increase in calls.
Advocates warn of rollbacks on marriage equality and healthcare, leaving many to rush legal changes or consider relocating.
Itās absolutely terrifying. Iām in a red state and every single trans person I know has been devastated and wanting to at least leave the state. My partner and I are intending on moving to a blue state as soon as possible. Canāt really leave the country since no place will likely take us since we are both disabled.
Itās incredibly hard and depressing to realize that the vast majority of people might care about us as trans folk and believe we deserve our rights to exist and be ourselves and even support trans kids, but that enough of those people either were willing to sacrifice our rights for the price of eggs, or stayed home or voted third party for some bs reason that they wanted to āpunish the democratsā for. Enough people caring about us doesnāt matter anymore if they donāt vote to protect our rights.
Itās really fucking hard to exist right now.
Iāve been disgusted seeing headlines the past week about how āDemocrats went too far left w.r.t. trans issues, and thatās why Harris lostā and, āDemocrats didnāt listen to the public on this issue.ā
Absolutely disgusted. First of all, allowing a person to exist based on an immutable aspect of them, should never be considered an extreme position.
Second, ālisten to the public?ā Should we also be listening to the public more about whether or not Jews should exist? Or is that an absurd suggestion, because of fucking course they should. And religion is a choice, unlike gender and sexuality.
Iām sorry you have to go through this. Itās been so goddamn stressful for me, and Iām a straight, white, cis, male. I canāt even imagine what it must be like for you and others like you.
I will not dox myself, but I live in a state that will most likely fight any federal action against LGBTQ+ people tooth and nail, and if/when it comes down to literally running for your life, I would straight up let you live in my basement. Itās a rental, so we may have to be chill, but fuck it.
Enough people caring about us doesnāt matter anymore if they donāt vote to protect our rights.
They care at an abstract human level but give them the flimsiest excuse, and theyāre more than happy to throw us under the bus and side with/engage in the most virulent transphobia.
Almost intolerable? Who writes these headlines?
Someone who hasnāt lived in a red state as a trans person or with a trans loved one.
