    “Dick” is archaic American slang for “the truth.” Although as another commenter said, there is an element of “they knew” here, because “dick” meant “penis” before the more innocuous usage came around.

      I’m tossing my vote in for “solid dick” which meant “hard truth “ or straight talk.
      I feel like this explains the white gap to the right of the text line

        I haven’t found evidence of this, other than the obviously edited Marvel comics panel, let alone this one.
