I made more baguettes! Wife and I ate one right out of the oven. The other two were used for charcuterie.

This post is for casual conversation if you don’t feel like making a post of your own.

    Work. :(

But I’m off in a couple hours and I’ll still have most of my day. Probably work on some music and do some cooking and a couple chores, but I’d really like to get out of the house too…other than for going to work.

It’s choring day today. But I’m still in bed because the first chore is strip the bed and wash sheets.

I want to make a list but it always squnches it down to a paragraph so I’ll just do that instead

Strip bed, sheets and anything else into the wash. Start wash. Husband is probably out of bed, so fully wash his cpap machine including hose. Find the second set of sheets and make the bed. Go fill cat food. Start the scrubbing and refilling of water for the cats. The single cat has like three bowls, one an electric fountain. Change laundry over to dryer. Think about doing another non planned chore, instead take a nap.

I keep telling myself I’m going to do stuff and not play Baldur’s Gate 3 all day.

Some fine lookin baguettes you got there!

We’ve spent the morning cleaning and organizing the cottage for winter. About to leave home soon. Fixed the porch yesterday and picked up funnel chanterelles and lingonberries. We’ve had a couple nights with minus degrees so berries were a bit mushy, but I’m planning to cook jam from them, so it shouldn’t matter. But I must say I haven’t used “old” lingonberries in jam before so we’ll see how it turns out. 😅

I can’t get my sourdough starter… Started! I get to a point where I feed it and it gets a bit bubbly but nothing else. It’s like a soup. It’s weird because the first feedings go so well: it grows, smells great, but after a few days it just kind of dies. I don’t want to give up but I even bought a book, followed instructions to the gram and still won’t get it right!

PS those baguette look so good!!!

Try a different flour, or letting it go longer between feedings. Make sure it’s comfortably warm (21° seems happy)

I don’t frown on throwing in a wee bit (<2% bakers %) of yeast either.

      You might be overthinking it.

I got the book because I could not for the life of me get it right… Lately I’m just throwing flour and water a I see fit. We’ll see if the underthinking works lol Thanks for the advice!

Do you feed it once a day?

I’m about to start a new starter. I’ve been working with poolishes so far. That’s worked out well but I want more flavor.

Have you tried adding regular yeast to your dough in addition to the starter to give it the lift you are looking for?
