this is incredibly shitty, but I thought biometrics were fair game? (I agree they shouldn’t be.) I was under the impression they could compel you to give biometrics without a warrant, just not a password.
I’m not a lawyer, but I think that’s only legally true if you’re detained.
That’s what it all hinges on. No IDs, no warrants: pretty much everything they do is illegitimate.
Illinois has strong biometric collection laws. If they’re using a commercial product that company could be on the hook.
