The recently launched Season 10 and Nighthaven update will serve as the final content release for New World on PC and consoles. It is only after much consideration that we’ve reached this decision. To thank you, the New World community, for your support over the years, we have made the Nighthaven release available to you for free. To ensure all New World players can experience this content, we also made Rise of the Angry Earth free for all PC players.

In the coming months, we will provide more details on what to expect and other essential information. Rest assured, our intention is to keep servers operating through 2026, allowing our community time to continue their adventures in Aeternum. Additionally, New World: Aeternum will still be downloadable for PlayStation Plus members (Extra and Premium).

I bought it when I had Covid, I wanted something new to play. Once I was better I played another week or three and have not touched it since.

it’s so weird to me that it sounds like they might shut down servers later. From what I heard, the new expansion was surprisingly well received. The past few days it peaked at greater than 40K concurrent players each day. surely the servers can pay for itself?

I think this is due to the broader “move towards AI”, gaming was big around COVID, now it’s in a massive decline, at least in terms of employment and investment opportunities, if not actual revenues.

I knew that this game was overhyped and its life would be limited, but now is the time to try to preserve this game as much as possible ahead of shutdown date.

The game would have been appropriately hyped if it weren’t for a few massive fuckups.

      1. Resource gathering was supposed to be a cat & mouse game. But the potential PvP while gathering resources doesn’t appeal to the masses, so marketing added a “you can’t touch me” PvE flag.

      2. Item duplication. There were exploits that allowed item duping. They didn’t reset the economy after those exploits were addressed, and they didn’t catch everyone.

      3. They decided the content was too easy (especially given the duped gear above) and made everything much harder after a couple weeks. Again, no server reset. So if you didn’t get in in the first couple weeks and duplicate some items in that time, you were forever behind.
