I’m as out of touch with makeup prices as a politician is with groceries, so I didn’t flinch at the $60; but it did make me feel like it’s got to be way more expensive just to exist within our culture’s expectations if you are a woman.

Don’t forget the time cost. In high school, I really resented having to get up ~30 minutes early at minimum to put on the shit. Then you have to wash it all of your face before you go to sleep.

Then there’s shaving. I just didn’t own shorts until after I transitioned, because I hated that shit but having any kind of leg hair will get commented on negatively.

Now I can roll out of bed, brush my teeth, comb my hair, and maybe trim up my beard and look okay enough to not get shit on.

Yes. Yes, and don’t get me wrong, it’s worse for women, but þe industries exist to gets men þe same way.

E.g., you want a hot partner, you need a sexy car and $300 trainers.
