Gears 4 felt more like a filler game where a lot of things get introduced but nothing gets carried forward into the rest of the game. The game felt like it was designed exclusively to set up the narrative for Gears 5.
I’m 1 hour into Gears 5 and I felt that the narrative within the first one hour of the game felt a lot better. Gears 4 felt like you were the only living beings out there but gears 5 feels less lonely.
I don’t know how the rest of the game is but this is my first impression.
Multiplayer wise gears 5 is amazing. I have 10 hours in MP and Horde so far and I love the horde mode. MP is a sweatfest like its always been in gears.
These games feel like they were made for people 30y old than I am. The writing is atrocious…
Is the writing any better? I’m 36 and it felt like 4 was written for players 20 years younger than me
I got bored of the semi open-world part but it was still much better than Gears 4.
I think I’m just one chapter before the open world section. It’s gonna make more sense in a few hours why it’s boring to me
Shocked this game had any sequels at all. Came out sometime after the original halo and it had like 4 weapons. Did they add more?
Some would say weapons aren’t the only thing that makes a game good
I’m not sure what Halo has to do with it? Also from what I remember Gears was a huge franchise back in the peak Xbox 360 days so of course it got sequels
I think you just noted why they compared them. Both were huge.
Kinda sad to see the state of them now.
Honestly. Games that came out after late 2001 and have less than 5 weapons have no business getting sequels. That said, I feel like we’re ignoring some more important criteria here. Like the amount of main characters named John. Gears of War didn’t have any! Can you believe that??
Yes, there are some pretty fun weapons in the Gears sequels. I like the torque bow.
