    Considering that it’s an extremely important city for many varied reasons, as well as having enough of a static population plus substantial tourism, it’s not a big stretch to include everyone so that they could be aware. Friends, family, tourism, the arts, ports, etc. are all integral to NYC, and it connects people across the globe.

    Just look at 9/11 and the global aftermath.

        It will influence people across the globe.

        Will it directly affect everyone? No.
        Will it impact a mass proportion of the world in unseen ways? Yes.

        New York’s actually one of the global trade hubs in the world. So yeah massive trouble to New York will affect the rest of the world that’s not even a question.
