Drivers always say “it will kill downtown businesses”, but I’ve only seen them thrive more with bikelanes. Cars don’t stop when they see something interesting, they aren’t part of the neighborhood, they just drive home to the suburbs. Ironically less traffic means more ability for locals to enjoy their neighborhood.

Yep. Being able to cycle into and around town is something you look forward to and enjoy. Driving into and around town is something you dread and plan.

I’ve lived inner city in two large cities and cycling or train is an absolute pleasure, as is longboarding. Needing to go a few blocks down or across city is a treat.

My favourite parts are either just having a cruise and still being way faster than a car. Or going for PBs on all the Strava challenges people set up around the cities bike lanes.

Get a light MTB off Marketplace or something, throw on commuter tyres, chuck on panniers, 😙👌

Edit: Oh, and seeing something you like and just deciding to stop lol.

“I think I wanna go over here.”

“I might go check this out.”

“I think I’ll stop in here for a beer.”

No parking, no walking blocks, no crawling. Just cruising freely.

I’m pretty sure Jane Jacobs wrote about this in the 1960s.

Somehow people refuse to accept this.
