Wait am I allowed to feel or should I not

IMHO meditation is the easiest thing in the world - and the hardest. Me and some friends just call it sitting - comfortable position, and stop acting for a while. No distractions. Of course “shit will come up”. Accept it. Don’t react. Let it pass.

So yes, you are allowed to feel. There’s no way around it really. Forget the whole “empty your mind” concept for the time being, if you’re new to this. That is not something that can be forced. No goals.

And set a timer. Otherwise you’ll go crazy asking yourself how much time has passed.

Honestly I don’t care what others say about “techniques”. There might be something to it - esp. if you’ve been meditating already for a long time - but it always makes me suspicious.

And if this is hard, then feel free to react. React once, and move on. If you’ve got that covered, you already went from dozens of reactions to one, and the next step will be easy.

I fell out of meditation in the first trump term saddly. What i used to do instead of reacting a lot was to repeat back my thought to myself calmly. I want to get back to that state of mind so bad. I just feel so bogged down.

Yes, don’t force yourself not to react. Don’t beat yourself up. In a word, meditation is about acceptance I guess.
