When I was in the US as an exchange student and didn’t know the English word for something, I just used the Latin one.
It always worked, but people thought it’s funny that I’m not fluent in English and still somehow talked like a professor.
I do that in spanish. Lots of spanish words are real fucking close to latin word (wonder why¿ /s) and if you can think of the latin word it’ll either prompt you to remember the spanish or you’ll get a laugh out of people when you use the latin one.
The funny thing is you can do it in Latin, French, or even German to some extent. There’s usually a word close enough that someone with a decent English vocabulary will be able to figure it out.
