As cliche as it sounds, slow and steady win the race.
The modern problem has always been our arrogance with these assholes. We treat them as stupid, when in reality they are not actually stupid, and then we get all shocked pikachu when they sucker punch us with some obvious bullshit because we weren’t looking.
And yes, they do and say stupid things all the time. But don’t let your hubris conflate that with their ability to out maneuver and manipulate us. That counts as intelligence.
The former confederates didn’t regain power this quickly, though. I guess they spent a century and a half learning to game the system.
