Add this to the mountains of evidence that these people don’t even practice what they preach.

Jesus befriended prostitutes. That’s the guy whose teachings they claim to follow.

I guess since Jesus was nice to people who modern Christians feel bigotry towards, they should target and ostracize Jesus next.

I’m not entirely sure this is true. Mary Magdalene is usually given as an example of this, but I suspect she wasn’t a prostitute, just a woman who was independently wealthy (which would have been very “sinful” in that time and place.)

The idea that Magdalene was a hooker comes from a 6th century pope conflating her with the prostitute that jesus told to ‘go and sin no more’. She almost certainly wasn’t a prostitute simply because prostitutes would never have been able to get that rich (one only became a prostitute out of sheer desperation.)

This isn’t to say he was shy about hanging around them, or others written off by society, mind you. and he probably knew them…quite well. (single dude. you can do the math.) Jesus refusing to cast judgement on the unnamed prostitute/adulteress wasn’t particularly out of line with the law of moses- the only prostitution that’s actually condemned was that of temple prostitutes (which were religious rights… for other gods…) Suffice it to say prostitutes were far from uncommon or rare or even close to regularly being stoned.

there is a difference between buying a go with a prostitute and being friends with them. There is also a difference between grifting them and being friends, too.

I mean sure, but he interacted with more than just Mary Magdelene. There’s a different prostitute in Luke 7:36-50 and Jesus makes it pretty damn clear how he feels about the other guy looking down on her.

Cultural subtext: she did just give him an erotic foot massage.

Again. Availing yourself of a prostitute’s services does not make you a friend of the prostitute. It makes you their john.

The way I read that, is that a) Jesus stiffed her on payment (he did forgive her, after all! How nice.) and b) got irritated when the Pharisee called him out for… you know… getting an erotic foot massage.
