You are telling me nothing I don’t already know; just with strong confidence from a position of not having to do anything yourself. Nobody likes Chamberlain armchair generals.

Do you have kids? What, specifically, would you do in my position? Please be very specific.

You think I would not join a resistance if it was my country? I very much would. I would rather die in freedom than grow old unfree and under fascism. Though, chances are I would end my own life before growinf old due to that life and oppression itself being unbearable.

I do not see what I would fear in resistance, because the fear of what would happen were I not to resist would simply be greater. A life under fascism is simply not worth living. A life where I am not free to being myself is no life I would ever be satisfied by.

If you have kids, then this should especially apply to you, because you have kids to worry about. Kids to fight for. Kids that will live in this future you are heading towards. And, if it all so happens that you all survive, what will you answer when they ask you about today? Will you say that you fought for freedom? Joined a resistance and tried to prevent a worse future? Or if you won’t survive, remember by?

But what do I know. I’ve only known oppression my whole life, being a minority of multiple kinds. I clearly do not know what is implied by losing freedoms, and what oppression can feel like. My country might have been peaceful so far, but I know for a fact I would rather face death than lose the potential freedoms I have. That I would subvert the law and state, risk facing its ire. Because the alternative is far worse and much more psychologically insidious. And would likely end in death and suffering, anyway.

Look. I’m just trying to get you to think about this in a serious and life-threatening manner. Because it is. What you deem is the best course of action is up to you. But do not forget that the thing that seems to have the least cost today, might not have the least cost tomorrow. You very well might just be taking out a loan with a drastically high interest rate.
