My city has a few, they’re generally better than those plastic portable toilets with the blue liquid plus require much less maintenance once installed.
they’re all over in australia and generally pretty good. i wouldn’t call them clean, but for requiring very little maintenance they’re fricken spotless
I hope you’re right. NYC isn’t like the US city I live in. The toilets I linked are pretty utilitarian, which isn’t a bad thing. They work, they can be cleaned easily, but you’re right, they are not self-cleaning.
I hope NYC figures out a new solution that others can follow. The Portland Loo was literally designed by the City of Portland (OR, USA) and it works.
