E.D., an asylum-seeker and domestic violence survivor from Honduras, was sexually assaulted by an employee while she was detained with her 3-year-old child at the Berks Family Residential Center in Pennsylvania. At the time of the assault, E.D. was 19 years old.

She filed suit against the detention center and its staff for their failure to protect her from sexual violence, even though they were aware of the risk. The record in the case, E.D. v. Sharkey, shows that her assailant coerced and threatened her, including with possible deportation, while the defendants stood by and made jokes

I mean, defending rapists and attacking victims is pretty par for the course of this administration. Their raison d’etre, if you will.

The staff tried to say that she consented. How the fuck does one consent to sex with someone who holds a gun? Monsters. Real life monsters.

This is one of those situations where rehabilitative justice is insufficient. They need to be made to pay for their crimes, dearly. This makes me a monster, too. So be it.

Corporate manslaughter, corporate racism, sexism, violence, etc. Those are all tested in court.
Denial is just words. Make these evil bastards understand by taking their money and freedoms. It won’t be enough to bring people back, but we need to make it happen.

Unbelievable, it reminds me of what the previous regime in Syria would do to prisoners.
IIRC, the male prisoners would have their privates cut off,
    the women would be raped.

This is very concerning, and depressing.

What is the disgusting mentality for these crime committers, why dont they feel regret for raping someone?

Because they’re like the orange one: addicted to the feeling of power, getting off on hurting others and no empathy or ability to understand other people.

You know how everyone agreed that while the world is not black and white, there were some things that were universal? Like nazism being considered universally evil?

    Trumpism.

I am not an advocate for capital punishment because I always thought that, beside nazism, everything could be somewhat gray and people could be rehabilitated with enough work to make them useful for the society after they paid for their crime.

    Trumpism.

It’s the first time in my life that I am considering that capital punishment is not an absolute; maybe there really are people beyond redemption.

    The incident happened in 2014.

The case was filed around 2017 and was dismissed.

Of course it’s gross, but it’s been over a decade now and doesn’t have connection to the current ICE regime.

The point is that the post is created in such a way as to suggest it happened recently which is disingenuous. Based on the numerous responses here, most seem to think it. I’d rather focus on the current issues which are far more pressing than something over a decade resolved. That’s all.
