We love the Americans who are putting up a fight against fascism. We see you and hope that more join in.

Why not both? I’ll certainly be voting, and that hasn’t or won’t stop me from protesting

Seriously, people who didn’t vote in 2024 are much dumber than anyone out there reminding people that midterms are gonna be important.

It’s like they want so badly to prove that voting doesn’t work that they refuse to vote, thus ensuring it doesn’t work.

Oh boy, the doomerism that drove low turnout among the left in the Presidential election is back!

Hey, nothing bad happened from skipping the last election right?

It doesn’t suggest you should skip going out to vote. It says you shouldn’t wait to vote before doing something.

So I’ve been arguing with people about this. Seems like lots of you don’t have any other accounts online except like the little digital closets where 99% of content is just news headlines and heavy moderation. Other than waiting for protests, what are things that people are doing if you’re they’re not actually where the vox populi are

Doesn’t say that, either. The character just said to wait. We can do anything while waiting & often do.

Maybe the author meant the character to mean not to do something while waiting, but it’s unstated.

It does kinda imply that the person talking about midterms is dumber than the person who boycotted the 2024 presidential election, which I disagree with.

The person who didn’t vote and is now acting all shocked and high and mighty is definitely dumber.

    What do we want?

For the rest of the world to stop hating us sooner

    When do we want it?

Like, you know, as soon as seems reasonable, thanks. But no rush.

I dont think any american has ever cared how the world thinks about them and i dont think any of us are gonna start any time soon. Americans want healthcare, paid child care, and better wages and unions… literally zero fucks about the opinions of just the white europeans who think theyre the rest of the world

Yeh it’s quite weird. That nationalism seems to have morphed overtime to some kind of perverse arrogance where they have convinced themselves that badic citizen rights are not what they need, and the rest of the world is the poor cousin who knows nothing.

I am half filipino, so any time some one says “rest of the world” I really question if they are thinking of the brown people in the philippines and malaysia and indonesia, etc? I have half my family in the philippines, I hear their opinions often. Does the person saying “rest of the world” hear their opinions too? Or does the “rest of the world” mean the opinions of white people in europe.

My gut reactions when seeing a .world is a westernized white liberal (non leftist sort) is behind the keyboard

Ugh my therapist had to talk me down from going looking for trouble when I heard the goon squad came to a city near me.

If you’re going to protest, or be like I wanted to and carry out some mischief, mask up, no phones, tell a trusted friend and nobody else. They are actively harassing anyone they can identify as being in their way.

All that most of us really need is the freedom to not be shot, to work for a decent living, and have enough bread and circuses to keep me going in the former two.

Yeh that time has passed. It’s understandable everyone has been brought up on that premise…we all have but the speed and the ferocity of how that changed is frightening.

Can it be switched back on the outcome of a vote? I think not at this stage. Many seem to be waiting for one of those hero’s they see in the movies, for the virtue signalling celebrities, or for a band of politicians to come to the rescue. They ain’t. They are just as shocked and are busy hiding in fancier houses.

More like mad at the people who refused to vote in the last election to try to prove a point, and landed us in this mess. You can’t vote your way out of fascism if you don’t vote.

Sure. But being pissed off at non-voters in the last election doesn’t get you out of fascism either, waiting for a blue wave in the midterms is also a mistake since the controlled opposition are bought & paid for by the same people.

The only way to rid themselves of fascism is for everyone to put their tools down, go into the streets, and strike until Trump’s paymasters have lost enough profit that he isn’t worth the trouble anymore.

The simple truth is this shouldn’t have happened. People have been passive about the amount of money in politics and the rise in power of the billionaires. This denial has enabled a monster of. Situation.

I’m not sure they’re mad. They’re just afraid. They’re afraid to become a target. They’re afraid that you’re right and they are contributing to the end of humanity. They are afraid they won’t be able to get ripe oranges in February. But until it directly affects their daily lives, they’re content to turtle up and ride it out.
