Back in my day, the memes fit the message. Nowadays, it’s like they are rolling the dice which one they use for what is copy paste of their insta post. Like the abuse of the “Lisa on Stage” meme, it’s so on point that it’s obvious they aren’t even trying to be funny.
That’s not particularly exclusive to comics. Jokes in general are infinitely re-hashable, which is fine as long as the comedian puts in the effort to make it their own and doesn’t just steal the joke and try to pass it off as their own.
i mean look at the difference between i want a new drug and ghostbusters. ray parker jr doesn’t just rip off huey lewis and the news, he adds some original new sections and it’s damn good music.
Most comics being created today are simply recreations of old jokes or memes
