It doesn’t seem like Sony is backing down on its decision to end production of physical media by 2028 any time soon.

imo they should have to offer full refunds on all consoles before the warning label if a customer asks.

I’d love to return mine and get the money back. There’s basically no games worth playing on ps5 this generation that are not on PC for me.

I mean, doesn’t this kind of prove Sony’s point though?

I personally won’t be cutting off my nose to spite my face. You can take my disc edition console and the physical games I have from my cold dead hands.

Prove the point that if a system is digital consumers prefer to do it on hardware that is open and can be assembled from parts you choose, run any programs you want, and run any OS you want?

Versus locked down hardware that doesn’t let you install competing storefronts, programs, and is able to implement paid multiplayer because the hardware ia so locked down?

Mate, I’m a PC gamer as well, so you’re preaching to the choir. I just don’t really get how Sony saying they are stopping physical game production because gamers don’t need it, then responding to that by… getting rid of your physical games makes any sense.

Just saying moving away from Sony to PC doesn’t prove Sony’s point, since they are removing physical knowing people will stay on their consoles and buy their digital games.

Last thing they want is for people to move to PC, since they went as far as to discontinue future exclusives there. They don’t care about digital games on PC. Just digital for their console.

The point I was referring to was that physical media is dead/not important any more.

It’s sony’s fault for not having good games. PC is just better for gaming these days. It’s not the 90s or early 00s anymore, controllers on PCs are at least as good as consoles and performance is generally the same or better.

Consoles don’t let me tweak settings that much, and PCs do. I can’t throw optiscaler on PS5, but I can on windows and linux all day regardless of GPU.

I can buy PC games on any store platform, but a PS5 only comes from authorized sources. The very nature of the walled garden makes it worse for consumers in all ways.

If I buy a new PC, I never worry about if it can run the same games and software as my last PC could. It will, and I can probably change some settings to make it all look better. If I buy a console the old games may not work, and if they do work they probably do not have tweakable settings and do not look as good as the often paid upgrades which just adjust the very same settings we would change on PC, but behind the scenes in locations we cannot feasibly access from the console.

Consoles are dying because they are poor value and predatory. They think they can just keep selling us the same shit again and again and again. My PC skyrim copy I bought once and own forever. Every fucking console has it’s own edition and you can’t transfer the shit anywhere.

Don’t get me started on the bullshit subscription pricing for cloud saves and multiplayer that makes zero sense when you already control the entire stack and are making money from hardware sales, software sales, and ongoing subscriptions for any product purchased through the console.
