TIL that “Jetta” is now an automobile brand in China…
And it names car models after BMWs, apparently.
I’m sure it’s $35k every where else. $45k in the US
I mean, it makes sense, 100% tariff on a $12000 car, plus an extra $24k to subsidize a dying ICE industry
And 80k in Canada
Boy do I wish I could place an order at that price… Can’t even get a used 10yr old Toyota hybrid at that price by me.
Ugly AF. Looks like a te$la. Why can’t they make the 93 Passat again? It would work great for electric as its grill-less…I just hate new cars visually man
And yeah I get its all aerodynamics. Its still possible to make aero look good.
With that price and that range…if that was available in the US, I wouldn’t care if was shaped like a pigeon, I would buy it.
Oh for sure, thats dirt cheap nowadays.
Eeeeew
Yeah, me too. Modern design has been incredibly disappointing for a while now.
I wish car brands would make something like a modern iteration of a Citroen DS or SM or something. Those cars are so cool and simply not something you see anymore
Very cool and unique. I just wish for another mitsu starion. Damn coolest looking car ever.
There are prototypes for a DS around with rumours of a release in the next 2 years
No way, really?
Yup
B5 or b6 please. Or even better, Audi A6 C5 Avant or Škoda superb 2012 as an electric. I’d buy in a blink of an eye. The best chassis ever made by VW group.
Does every EV design have to get beat with the boring stick in China?
From what I’ve seen and read, multiple studies pretty much show that EVs need to look like regular cars for mass adoption. You need to be able to look at it and not immediately clock it as electric, and it needs to fit in on the roadway, especially in places like the US or UK. Consumers feel better about cars that just look like a car, not cars that look like beans or dumpsters or something from a 70s trade paperback scifi cover.
China is a big enough market to get their own designs and the Chinese have slightly different tastes than the west. This car wouldn’t even be made in the EU or US these days, it’s a cheap long wheelbase sedan. It’s an odd compromise. Usually if you really really care about rear passenger space, you’d either get a minivan or a luxury sedan, depending on if you’re hauling kids or VIPs. The Chinese don’t seem to like minivans as much and obviously most can’t afford luxury sedans (that applies in most places of course) so they choose something else entirely. Not as practical as a minivan, not as comfortable as a luxury sedan, but cheap and spacious. Of course they also get a ton of crossovers like everyone else these days, but not everyone wants those either because once you make a crossover big enough in the rear, those get pretty big and heavy, which means more compromises.
