Just to let you know. Most of the blocked instances you see for programming.dev (since your account is here) aren’t forums you would normally interact with but are various ones on the microblog side that cause issues (for hate speech, spam bots that have seo spam posted in various threads, cp, etc.). For forums running lemmy and piefed the amount is very low.

For context this is for programming.dev specifially and affects our users rather than something on any fediverse software (figured I would mention that since it was cross posted into the main fediverse com with no context)

Reposting my answer to a comment on the main p.d post just so theres no confusion on this

• Processing is local. Were not sending data to an LLM but the method is hidden so bad actors cant bypass it
• The things that are checked are public (posts, comments, and dms that are also sent to other servers we dont control) and can be moderated on regardless of this. There isnt anything that breaches privacy
• Worst thing it can automatically do is temporarily remove a post/comment until an admin can approve or deny it just so its not there for people to run into (for example if someone spams slurs at someone else the someone else doesnt see that instead of it being there until an admin is able to come online)

comment was restored instantly since it shouldn’t have hit that message (ill probably try to get piss removed from the check). Just a way for admins to be able to check messages to prevent new accounts from instantly harassing people after sign up

Pangora should be back up atm if you wanted a reference to what it looks like. It’s something I just havent been maintaining and updating atm since ive been focusing on getting some other projects finished and lemmy has been good enough so far on this side

It works, those statuses are just a bit misleading

How it works is it subs to a community (from all instances connected to it) until someone from an instance subs and then it unsubs in that instance. In the previous version of the site when it unsubbed it would mark the instance it unsubbed from as completed on that community (although seems to be a bit broken here)

Its still only voters, lurkers that dont do any actions arent counted

Theres been a bunch of activity and people joining in in the dev matrix already

Backend pretty much already has parity and the frontend is currently the main thing that an updated demo is waiting on but should be ready really soon

In terms of new tech stack currently theres sublinks being made by devs/admins of a bunch of instances (discuss.online, lemmy.world, programming.dev, etc.)

Instances either put announcements there (e.g. future downtime), core info (e.g. links to frontends, donate link) or random sentences. Can only be one of the options out of those three though unless you want to delete and remake things a bunch of times to swap between them if you want everyone to see the downtime message

Its based on what instances report. So instances on 0.19 or above would factor in votes into that number. Ones that arent would not (so the number has a combination of both cases)

The 2m there is extremely inflated to to bot sign up spam. Back when instances were getting set up in the reddit migration there was some people that started mass signing up accounts on instances with weak security. Fediverse observer doesnt care about any of that and just shows user accounts regardless of what happens on the instance

Fedidb has a much more accurate count at ~ 400k https://fedidb.org/software/lemmy since they exclude these bot spammed instances. They also have a monthly active user count (~ 38k) based on what instances report for that stat
