I use discover on opensuse tumbleweed. Simple, easy, and I can choose the source from flathub and tumbleweed when both are available.

I did have an issue once but it turned out that it was network related and not my config.

I always knew but it got confirmed for me about 20 years ago when I bought a 60$ dvd player that could play XviD discs and burned discs with no issues at all, my friend’s 300$ brand new Sony DVD player would not even play some legit DVD’s and refused any burned discs.

I love that idea, will not “damage” a vehicle but still very annoying for pricks like him doing it intentionally.
