Lol agreed, I’m not buying another one. I mainly wanted to get a look* at how because I’m much better at understanding things when i can hold and inspect them.
Edit: I’ll add that my main requirement was not needing a new hub to control them, hence this zwave solution 🙂
I grabbed one of these and attached to our largest blinds and they work phenomenally. The main issue is cost, but I really just wanted something as a proof of “how” to do it, and hope to come up with a cheaper homebrew later on.

Go app based, and keep it something that doesn’t sync (preferably) to external servers.
I’m using andOTP currently for mine. You can create backups every now and again and store them off your phone for safe keeping too 🙂

Alternatively, set up a VPN into your home and only allow cam access via local network 🙂
As far as network cams are concerned, it’s a pita to find a good one that is also not expensive.
Feel free to correct me, anyone, because I do want a better solution than buying a cheap one and just blocking it from all WAN access in or out.
