I use this for local news
Get a dell or hp sff business pc off ebay for like 150 bucks. Great little machines to play with linux
2011ish mac mini
from what im reading 2011 minis are “problematic” installing linux. not for the faint of heart
What year? Likely need to setup proxmox or similiar. Search your year and model number and linux. Plenty of tuts out there.
Im running ubuntu server on a 2018 mini
I think federation is at the community level. So if that community is hosted by lemmy.world then yes it will show up. A sites federation controls are for local communities only.
I would be on safe side and cancel thier subscriptions first
I will defederate it dont want that garbage
Thats one of the biggest issues. Its a big change of thinking from a centralised server like reddit etc.
All i want is to be able to group communities maybe call it a town even if its local only
Then dont?
Yea im well versed in docker (years of homelab) not saying its perfect but the ansible playbook had my droplet up in 15 min. I see where your coming from though and will likely just manage the compose myself now
now i have to install matrix :) Will these changes work well with the ansible deploy setup?
But dont you lose that if your not federated. Or you mean like a private reddit style system
digitial ocean droplet. With the ansible playbook mine was up in 20min
Turn on captchas too.
I think the easiest is login to the docker and run the postgres client to run sql to delete users. I dont know how to differentiate between your bot and normal
Create that user? I wiped mine early on once and just made sure to recreate the users i had. Only had 2.
Also look at the lemmy admin guide for a simple command to backup your db.
