They use a combination of Bluetooth and nfc and maybe some wideband spec (though I think the wide and stuff is just for when you go in searching) . Basically anytime it’s near another iPhone, the iPhone picks up the tag ID and sends it in.

If it detects a lot of checkins to a phone that isn’t on the same Apple ID, the AirTag will make noise (as an anti-stalking measure)

I believe a recent patch also allows android to report in status, or maybe that’s coming but still in the works. Not sure.

I have specifically had issues with the g613 on other setups. Specifically with repeating keys etc.

But the Ethernet hub one does perfectly fine. I play games on it basically nightly.

The anker I just use as a travel hub. But have used it in a pinch on my laptop setup.

I have it connected to windows most of the time but had run it through a kvm and on a late 2012 Mac mini. Used that as a work machine through covid on the same setup. Only difference is kvm is gone now

I mean I get that. I’ll be honest and say if service works so that I don’t have to call, I’m fine. Hell I have to deal with Comcast who has notoriously bad customer service. They are one of the few even now that will let you onboard with a gift card, essentially anonymously if you wanted. So there is that too.

My biggest complaint is the spam text messages and the att passport/boingo wifi thst I can’t tell my phone to not connect to. The latter may be a deal breaker.

Yeah dont get me wrong. Theres a reason i moved to crickett but havent moved the rest of my family yet, though most of the savings come with multiple accounts.

Like I said i dont like their onboarding process, having to use a burner account/number to get started, then setup an actual account. I also dont really trust their security, specifically with porting and IMEI etc.

That said, their billing is pretty straight forward. Its x dollars a month (60 for my plan) and if you do autopay they will credit 5 bucks. Like I said though, i had a -65 dollar balance, so unsure why i was even charged, i had a credit. And their support is total dogshit. LIke call at noon on a tuesday and still wait 45 minutes through 4 queues to talk to someone that just wants you off the line.

I did notice they charged my card even though I had a negative balance (aka a credit). Which is odd.

That said their onboarding process is ridiculous and confusing. Even for me. And they try real hard to charge you 9 dollars for an esim.

I mean…i Just moved from Ting/Verizon to Crickett. It works fine. The primary line is a verizon line but the device is unlocked after 60 days per Verizons Policy.

The biggest annoyance with Crickett/ATT is

1. ATT Passport Wifi cant be disabled permanently and is annoying

2. Crickett constantly sends spammy SMS messages to me.

I may just move to ATT pay as you go for a bit more. Have dual sim verizon is borderline pointless from a data perspective. And t-mo has shit coverage where i need it.

The fact that people actually ever bought it (and said thank you for it) was super weird to me.

This is why I strictly buy content. If I can’t buy it outright, music, movies, TV shows, then well I’m not gonna rent it.

Music especially I want to support the creator. So I try to get things on band camp or even HDTracks.

That is because the community hasn’t been synced. In 0.17.4 it was just a generic 404 community not found.

When you are searching are you leaving the filter to all or setting it to community?

How are you searching? The best way I found to load up my instance was to head to this site

Click the house in the top right and input your instance domain. This will reformat everything to the right search term.

Then click the little copy link (it’s the one under the primary instance name). And paste that into searc and mash search a few time. The instance will appear in search after a few tries (heavier trafficked instances are slower to respond). Then just open the instance and subscribe. That will start syncing the community. Your federated instances will slowly grow from there.
