Yet another reason I’m against capital punishment.
They know via physical evidence exonerations that not all convicted murderers are actually guilty. And a dead person can only be exonerated posthumously.

Or, you could just… not execute him. It’s letting him off easy.
He’ll still be as dead at the end of a life sentence than he will be at the end of an execution, but with the latter, you let him skip decades of excruciatingly crappy prison life.

It’s not computing that is evil necessarily. It’s the corporate privatization of compute that is going to be the issue in the coming years and decades. Like so many things in the modern world, they want you renting it, not owning it.
Keep working to own it yourself, and use it to help fight the battles that need to be fought.

Sounds like they are on their way.
Gathering the evidence and making sure all the bases are covered to secure a murder conviction takes longer than the process for lesser offenses… but this news gives the impression that the MN state authorities totally have prosecuting ICE-committed felonies on the table, and I’m psyched to see it!

The move isn’t to reject the fandom.
The move is to build the instance with explicit values — pro-trans, pro-queer, progressive moderation, zero tolerance for bigotry.
This feels like building a forum to discuss Mein Kamph, and then saying it’s going to moderated with a focus on inclusion, human rights, and diversity.
With the whole HP thing, there are IMO far too many people fully separating the art and the artist. I just can’t morally do that.

I think most people don’t understand how insanely, mind-mindbogglingly large 52! is.
I’ve received disbelieving replies before after saying that every freshly full-shuffled deck, where that shuffling started from a shuffled state (not new deck order), is in a unique card order never before used by humanity since the invention of the four suit and 52 card deck.
But that statement is absolutely true. The chances of it being false are so microscopically tiny that they are, for all intents and purposes, zero.

Oh no! Who could have possibly predicted that starting a new war in the middle east would raise gas prices?

In their statement, they vilified the victim by claiming she was fleeing law enforcement.
Hmmm… I wonder why she did that? Running for her life, perhaps?
Now he shall forever and always be known as Donald Dump.
Kind of figured, it has too many in-focus points at varying distance from the “camera.” So it still has some uncanny valley in it.
Also, fully gas up your car (or make sure you’re at the top of your safe charging range if you have an EV). If you need to use your car briefly as a heat island, you’ll want to have the ability to do that for as long as possible.
If it were just one 30+ year old cat, it’d be more believable. But the wiki article says that he owned two, and the other one lived into its mid-30s.
Pretty sure that I have a better odds of quantum tunneling my entire self to the Andromeda galaxy in the next ten minutes than a single person has to own two 30+ year old housecats that were born within a few years of each other.

Remember that scene in The Shawshank Redemption where it establishes that the corrupt warden was ruining local businesses because he had no labor overhead costs when deploying prisoners all over town to do project work? And then the local businesses started bribing him to stay away from their livelihoods so that they wouldn’t go bankrupt?
Same as modern times: except, it’s 10,000 times larger in scale now, and the smaller businesses can no longer afford the bribes. But that’s okay, because the government stepped in to pay instead.

Annoyingly, where I live, they won’t let you have the shingles vaccine until age 50 for… reasons, I guess?
But you better believe it’s one of the items on my to do list for my 50th birthday week.

Less people watching on desktop can also track with less people actually owning desktops or using them to watch YouTube
Not what’s happening. The change can be pinpointed to an exact specific date for everyone. It’s just statistically impossible to explain that away as “fewer people are watching”

It’s not related. A bunch of different content creators across a bajillion different genres have publicly shared that it’s one specific type of view (desktop views) affected in their analytics (no other view type shows any statistical difference), and it’s acting the same way for everyone.
It’s just not that total views are down… it’s evidence that YouTube has changed the way they are counting the views of PC viewers. Why, or exactly how, no one is sure of yet (pretty sure YouTube has been silent on it and the reasons that it is happening are all speculation).

Oh yeah, I totally know the sovcit screwed up somewhere and that this is totally warranted. I just thought the demand for a huge amount of money in a tiny time window was pretty funny, like they’re just expecting you to go into the other room and pull a quarter of a million dollars out of your couch cushions or something lol

Sovcitizenry aside, I love the IRS just casually handing out a two week time window in which to pay them a hair under a quarter-million dollars 🤣
How do you pay with federal reserve notes?
That’s the technical name for dollar bills, sovcit. You hand them to the party you owe money to, and your debt is satisfied if you handed over the correct amount. You’re welcome, let us know if we can answer any other questions for you.
I relearned where my Lemmy user block functions are. I hadn’t had to do that in a while!
