The local Portland chapter of the World Naked Bike Ride group posted, “Emergency World Naked Bike Ride coming up in response to the militarization of our city. Plans are being worked on.”

This feels good but I don’t know that it’s a good idea long-term. This may just antagonize the forces the feds send in even further, when they need to be reminded that we’re all just Americans. Don’t forget the cult deprogramming tactics:

Build rapport and trust. Rebuild your relationship, if it’s broken. If you were the one to break contact, apologize. Reach out and be warm. Remember the good times. Focus on common values and areas you both enjoy (children, pets, music, dancing, fishing, sports). At first, don’t talk about controversial topics. Avoid “hot topics.” Just try to connect with the other person and have positive interactions. Build credibility and sustain positive interaction. Build a long-term relationship based upon respect, compassion, and love.

Do what you can to remove or minimize media that continually indoctrinates to only one point of view. This may only apply to certain types of cult groups. But it may be in the form of social media, videos, or television. You can even agree to make a pact to go on a media fast together. Don’t make this about “them” or “their problem.” Make this a fun thing to do together as a “break.” Be prepared to honor requests on your end.

Ask thought-provoking questions while being warm and curious. Be prepared to listen deeply. You will know if you have listened well if you can repeat back to them what they said. Be humble and open to hearing what they say.

Keep conversations positive, productive, and civil. Never get angry. Stay resourceful. It is better to end the interaction than to say something counter-productive. It is better to return to the conversation at another time, rather than the person cutting off all communication out of anger or fear.

Adopt a general tone of curiosity and interest in their positions. Pretend you’re an impartial counselor. Really try to get inside their beliefs.

Try to connect them with their authentic identity before these extreme beliefs. Remind them of past experiences together. Talk about the connection you once had and how you miss it.

Don’t “tell” them anything. Help them to make discoveries on their own.

Try to get them to look at reality from many different perspectives. This can include many things.

Teach them about indoctrination and mind control. Use examples for which they have no attachment.

Use examples of cult leaders with similar qualities to their group’s leader(s) and have conversations about it.

Share feelings and perceptions, not judgments. Use “I feel” statements. Don’t claim to be “right.” Stick to what your perception is when reflecting back to them.

Ask a question and then wait for them to think and respond. Be patient. You do not need to fill silence.

Caution: an abundance of facts won’t necessarily help. Do not overwhelm them with information, especially if it attacks the leader or doctrine.

Man, I hate these maps. Sure, it’s still shaped like the US, but the states are in totally incorrect places. For example, VA is three states in on this map. Functionality is more important than esthetics.

it’s better than trying to see what color one of the tiny northeast states are

id argue it is more functional than a normal map lol

I lived in Seattle for a while and got used to the nudity, imagine my sadness moving to Arkansas which bans any public nudity “within view” of the opposite sex (hello gay campgrounds) - but last year I saw a lesbian go topless at Pride and I was SO happy! My straight neighbor made it a point to mention how she didn’t care for that, and I’m like, it’s our event lady, don’t come.

Yeah, Austin started using it because of the immense amount of external pressure to conform to Texas’ otherwise rural conservative mindset, plus the internal pressure from the (again, conservative) state legislature being located there. The motto was a rebellion against that pressure. But Portland hasn’t been historically pressured in the same way.

If ever there has been a time to call for an emergency naked bike ride, this is it.

Why the fuck do they have to be gay? Like why do gay people always have to be blamed for the hate? Just because there’s been a few closeted pieces of shit doesn’t mean every fascist is.

Yeah people like them just want to be homophobic, and extremely likely transphobic and queerphobic, but want to look like they aren’t a complete waste of oxygen. Fuck those people, utter assholes

Every fascist is a closeted piece of shit, but it has nothing to do with sexuality. They all know deep in their hearts that they’re fascists, but they act and claim that they’re not the fascist, it’s everyone else who’s a fascist. And they resort to violence anytime someone points out that they’re a fascist, because everyone was raised to understand that fascists are weak, scared, little cosplay strongpeople, and their only defense is offense.

The closeted homophobia could be a contributing factor for some, but the closeted “fasciphobia” is very real for almost all of them. There are those few who proudly call themselves fascists, and they strike fear into the hearts of every closeted fasciphobe who are not yet willing to be seen shoulder to shoulder with an openly fascist pile of crap.

Is “closeted” queer language? I’ve never found consistent etymology or history of the word, but language is obviously driven by society. I really hope I haven’t been offending my friends throwing around that word all William-Nilliam… I’m not the most tapped-in person to culture, and even then, I’m unbelievably slow to catch on.

Oh I hate Fords, must be because I secretly love Fords! What a shitty take that you literally can’t apply to a single actual situation. Name 10 fascist you think are closeted, then we’ll talk about the homophobia you just performed by assuming people are queer.

Imperfect argument? You read the other comments in this thread and then commented “hate only exists because of closeted queers”. Maybe accept mild criticism when you make bigoted statements.

‘Hate only exists because of closeted queers’ is a fucked up sentiment. Most bigots are bigots for reasons that have nothing to do with their sexuality. Look at who’s running the government, you don’t think there’s a financial and political incentive to be a bigot right now? Straight people aren’t all upright paragons of morality who would never hurt people out of hate. I cannot emphasize enough how regressive it is to blame social problems on queers, no matter how you dress it up.

If you want to have a discussion about the psychological effects of being in the closet and try to relate that to hurting others, then it’s important to first understand that most closeted people hurt themselves if they hurt anyone, and in general aren’t fucking fascists. The only group that voted less for Trump than queer people was black women.

This whole sentiment that Trump appointees and party members are all f*ggots in the closet is based entirely in confirmation bias. You don’t remember the ones that are straight because that’s unremarkable to you.

Quck question, how uncomfortable is it to ride a bike while naked? Sounds pretty awful. Any accidental castrations?
