So IDK exactly what you were talking about BUT I work with micrometers everyday at work and you actually grip em with your pinky or sometimes pinkey and ring finger, and hold it against your palm so you can use your thumb and index finger to rotate the top!
Even people with big hands can use them pretty effectively :D
