As a trans person, I can’t go to the bathroom aligning with my gender in some states, and going to the other bathroom can get my assaulted or worse. Trump made getting a passport with my correct gender marker tricky, if not impossible. Trans minors can’t receive any healthcare related to being trans. They have already been talking about repealing the right for same sex marriage. just the other day some right wing lunatic was talking about detaining all trans people and “studying” us, but you that just means torture and killing us. (That last one was some nobody, but it still somehow made news and was posted on Lemmy.)

It’s happening right in front of you, open you eyes.

I don’t need to talk with my friends and family about their political beliefs, we do that regularly. I know where my friends and family stand. Some of them are not as far left as I am, but everyone I regularly choose to spend time with hates what’s happening now.

        Fucking liberals.

You act like nothing is happening and you will “study” more on the subject. You are disingenuous at best and probably a fascist apologist at worst.

Sadly, people like you pretend that nothing is happening when you know deep in your heart that Human Beings are being legislated against and dehumanized.

I used to believe liberals were good people now I think they are just as evil as fascists but in an oblivious kind of way.

Malcom X was 100% right about white liberals.

Wow, you’re making all sorts of assumptions here. Are you a troll or a bot?

If you are an actual person, please read more Malcom X, don’t just cherry pick the quotes you like. He was a great thinker and had a complex view of the world that changed over time.

Again you speak like you know it all but have no clue just like a pathetic liberal would do. You are the wolf that Malcom X was talking about. Keep supporting fascism.

I know this isn’t going to land well with you, but the more I think about the similarities in public perception between Charlie Kirk and Malcome X the more glaring they become.

The views of Malcolm X that has permeated our culture is a caricature of the complexities of that man. Often people ignore the journey and the external factors that shaped his viewpoints and just focus on when he was most radical, completely disregarding everything before and everything after. Especially the latter end of his life when he was, arguably, more worldly and much wiser. Sadly, disappointingly, horrifyingly; I’m seeing a parallel to Charlie Kirk. Not so much that people are focusing on some radical aspect of Kirk’s statements, because let’s be honest, he was quite moderate. (Side note, if you think Kirk was anything but moderate I have some bad news for you about where the extremes actually are). Rather, it seems like people have turned Kirk into a caricature as well. Focusing in on one random quote or another. It speaks volumes about our discourse when we can’t actually discuss ideas and instead default to name calling and assumptions. I get that a lot of people viewed this man as a representation of something truly ugly, but it’s not that hard to see he wasn’t some racist/nazi/biggot/etc.

Why do we do this to ourselves is perhaps the bigger question. Why do we keep pretending people aren’t people and turn them into overly simplistic cartoon villains? When and where did the demonization of Kirk start and how did it permiate a subculture so deeply?

Anyway, obviously the two men were very different people with very different lives, but the inaccurate interpretation of their ideas by the modern zeitgeist are creepily similar and both were cut down well before their time. I also feel quite comfortable saying that both men would be disappointed by how some people choose to remember them. I’m glad that you invoked Malcolm X and I thank you for bringing these similarities to my attention. I hadn’t thought about Malcolm X in a while and it was nice to go back and read some more of his writings. All the best ❤️
