Not, the House house, but y’know, like the scary story to tell in the dark

i am not sure what people expect this photo to do to be honest. they are sarcastically mocking the left for calling them terrorists. they aren’t going to feel attacked if you show them this photo. the only thing it does is making you laugh at the right wingers and feel good about yourselves. it’s purely self-congratulatory.

Sooo… We’re not supposed to find this deeply disturbing that they don’t want to distance from it but in fact normalize the label?

And since when are conservatives ever remotely good at sarcasm or satire?

I’m pretty sure any fence-sitter would find this pretty weird to say the least, especially following Jan 6th, so I say keep showing it!

        …it’s a joke.

        It’s literally a joke.

No rational person would believe they’re calling themselves terrorists literally.

The message here is “liberals will think the worst of us no matter what we do, so why not just call ourselves terrorists, lol”. And by taking it seriously you prove them right.

And after the barrage of cringe tone deaf “humor” about a fucking political assassination I think my side doesn’t have room to criticize other people’s jokes.

Perhaps the reason that “humor” is coming out so strong is because Republicans are so cavalier about “having basic respect” and “don’t glorify political violence.” So yeah, I don’t blame people at all for glorifying the death of a mouthpiece of that hate and division, he was literally asking for it. He radicalized the youth, downplayed political violence, and encouraged stochastic terror. There hasn’t been a better example of living by the sword and dying by the sword, so as far as I’m concerned, until there are consequences for lack of civility, respect, decorum, not glorifying terrorism, etc, Republicans have earned none.

I’m no George Carlin, so I guess you’ll need to go slowly when you explain to me which part of this is supposed to be the punchline and why.

          1. Various conservative extremists do a bunch of domestic terrorism.
          2. People point out that a bunch of domestic terrorism is being done by conservative extremists.
          3. CPAC, which is like the San Diego Comiccon of conservatives says “We are all domestic terrorists”.

The implication is that they are doing an “I’m Spartacus!” to stand with these extremists rather than distancing themselves from them. So they either want those extremists to feel welcome in their tent for what can only be horrifying reasons, or they’re just trying to be edgy xhardcorex tweens to bait a reaction aka “trigger the libs lol”. But nobody is triggered. Instead people are just kinda pointing and going “those weirdos are just shamelessly admitting to being on board with killing people to get their way?” Because most people are not chronically online. Most people probably don’t pay that much attention to politics. So when they see one party openly admitting to doing terrorism in a post 9/11 world, they are rightfully confused. Even moreso when that same party is remaining fairly successful. Sidenote: remember when the Dixie Chicks got cancelled by the right for saying they were ashamed that Bush was from Texas right as we were gearing up to invade Iraq under intentionally misleading pretenses? Not really relevant to this, just remembered it while thinking about how fucking weird everybody got right after 9/11. Freedom fries and shit. Cringe.

that wasn’t my point, and i am not defending the Republicans. maybe that’s what people thought I was saying that I got downvoted? (not complaining, this just shows there are shortcomings in how i communicate my ideas).

of course it’s deeply disturbing that they are embracing this label. and it’s all good that we can look at this at laugh at our enemies, think they are weird, or whatever. maybe i am a pessimist, but i am worried that this isn’t going to change anyone’s minds. the right wingers will look at this post and say “look at those dumb leftist, they just can’t understand sarcasm” and move on.

you say this can change the minds of fence-sitters, obviously i don’t have any data to support or discredit that, so genuine question: have you seen anyone’s mind being changed by this?

It’s relevant right now as they want to call people on the left domestic terrorists and blame them for Kirk’s death. Good to remind them they thought it was worth mocking when it was used on them. Not that they would appreciate that
