This is such a bullshit take. “Oh sure, American cops are brutalizing children now but did you know they also brutalized children before? Oh you didn’t? Oh, you aren’t completely numb to the encroaching totalitarianism of the American empire? You know it’s been happening for decades, right? Why bother being upset about it now when you should have been upset about it in the '70s? and by '70s I mean the 1770s lmao”

Seriously STFU with this. We know it’s been happening. The problem is that it’s still happening, and as long as it is happening it’s newsworthy.

I bet these specific kidnapped children would take issue with your characterization. This is brand new. It just happened. The narrative may be similar to past events, and it’s definitely some believably awful American bullshit, but let’s show some empathy for the specific victims of state violence, while also criticizing the state for committing said violence. Dismissing the news as just more of the same only normalizes this kind of violence, even if that’s not your intention.

      Sure, enough.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tacoma_riot_of_1885

The mob marched Chinese residents to a railroad station and forced them to board a train to Portland.[2] In the following days, the structures that remained in the Chinese community were razed.[3] The event was the result of growing anti-Chinese sentiment and violence throughout the American West.

This organized action became known as the “Tacoma method”, and despite national and international outcry, it was used as an example of how to forcibly remove Chinese residents from cities and towns throughout the American West.

Amidst the vast and brutal history of racism and genocide in the US, it’s easy to forget that the only people to have been banned from the country by law were the Chinese.

I live in the PNW and had never heard of this event. About 20yrs ago I was considering buying an old house in Old Town and now it looks like that might have involved buying land stolen from Chinese residents after having been stolen from Native residents after … Thanks for the link.

Because Americans continue to protest. This is why he is sending military to US cities and talks about “enemy within”.

“Bad” isn’t binary. Bad things happen in my country and in yours. Instead of writing it off or using it to dunk on other places, you could try to improve the world and make people’s lives better…
