Kirill Dmitriev first posted about the idea on Thursday, suggesting a “Putin-Trump” rail tunnel could connect the two countries under the Bering Strait, which separates Russia’s vast and sparsely populated Chukotka region from Alaska.

Asked about the idea during a press conference with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, Donald Trump called it “interesting”.

He also asked President Zelenskyy what he made of it, to which Mr Zelenskyy replied: “I’m not happy with this idea.”

This prompted laughter from the US side.

Overnight, Mr Dmitriev posted on X, saying: "We have started the feasibility study of the Russia-Alaska tunnel six months ago.

They’re just messing with him at this point. Checking how stupid he actually is, and then laughing. Russia put a retard in power of the U.S and now they’re bullying him. I don’t think a nation has ever been so thoroughly “owned” before. Well, maybe that time Russia made the U.K leave the worlds largest trade bloc.

It’s kinda sad, in a way.

You remember the kid who was kinda dumb and weird but he would hang out with the “cool kids”?

I mean, he thought they were cool, and maybe a few different cliques agreed…but most people thought they were dicks.

But they’d all make fun about him behind his back or even right in front of him and he’d be too dumb to realize that he was a punching bag.

        Kinda feels like that.

Ok, all politics aside, it would be cool to be able to take a train to Russia. Not that it will ever actual be possible in my lifetime. Wish the world was a good place.

Aside from the political issues and technical issues, have you looked at what parts of Russia and the us would be joined? What would you do on either side?

To make it actually go somewhere you’d need to add a couple thousand miles high speed rail from the main parts of the us, including across places there are no roads yet, and n the Russian side like 5,000 mile high speed rail across Siberia (or I suppose a couple thousand miles to china

This has been a plan for a long time. There are 2 islands they were planning on using as midway surfacing points for car and train tunnels 20 years ago.

That would “reduce” the project to two canal-tunnels. Sounds do-able alhough I have not compared sea depths an types of the sea bottom which are more critical than length.

Sure they need this! Go for it! As long as they can put their name on it it’s justified for them. Let’s act as if there is no Russian boycot and their economy is okay. Let’s pretend the usa has affordable healthcare an education for all citizens…

Do it. I want this tunnel and I want it yesterday. Make it happen. Give us the plan. Give us the funds. Make both economies stronger with a direct train tunnel. Save your fucking legacy with some mega structure that actually helps people. I’ll fucking re-paint “THE TRUMP TUNNEL” every other year on both entrances.
