I don’t know or care about their preferences. Maybe they’d like .ml, who knows, Most people don’t like .ml, look at the vote ratio on the post.

So, for most new people, we expect they also won’t enjoy it. No one is stopping them, same way you aren’t stopping your friend, just warning them. If they want to go play there or it appeals, nothing stops them.

But, warning people does help cut down on the “ugh, is this the fediverse? I don’t like reddit but at least it’s not that!”

let them find out on their own.

No one is stopping them but it’s polite to give a warning, same as we do for nsfw subs.

The vote ratio on my comments contradict the vote ratio on the post.

You’re assuming preferences of strangers, not cool.

      No one is stopping them

You are stopping them. You’re telling new users to avoid that community, which is probably stopping many. Most people when visiting a new city would listen to someone who suggests avoiding a particular area.

You’re worried about .ml scaring off fediverse users? The fediverse is a big place, with .world being the biggest. If they don’t like .ml then they’ll find .world. If you’re right about .ml then let people find it, promote it even, and they’ll bounce to .world if .ml is too mean.

Y’all making memes about nsfw subs? No, you’re not.
