Maybe you know you snore like a bear, but you don’t feel much urgency to look into it. Or maybe you have been told to wear a continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP, machine for sleep apnea, but it is just so cumbersome.
A new study shows that it is important to take obstructive sleep apnea seriously now –– it could impact your risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease later.
Moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea is associated with a greater risk for new microbleeds in the brain, according to the study.
The majority of sleep apnea comes from fat being where it shouldn’t be, ectopic fat in the airway. Ectopic fat is driven by metabolic disease, basically eating a bad diet. Eating a diet high in carbohydrates and sugar causes fat to build up where it shouldn’t be. I.e. Airway. Ectopic fat can be resolved rather quickly by not eating carbohydrates and sugar.
Cpaps are great, and if you need one, absolutely use it. There is a dietary intervention also available, low carb, or keto, will resolve sleep apnea as well.
I wish I had started cpap sooner. It’s so comfy. It’s like a continuous stream of fresh cool air straight to my nose no matter what position I’m in. When I wake up and browse Lenny I leave it on because it’s so nice. Sometimes I completely cover my head under covers to block out the morning light or to stay warm and it doesn’t get stuffy. It’s amazing.
I loved my Phillips CPAP for the better part of a year, until every use started coming with a distinct burning sensation in my nasal passages and throat.
Of course the VA still wondered why I wanted a new non-Phillips machine after the recall. Like hell the refurb/“fixed” version is good-enough, when the FDA banned them from making any such products going forward…
Ohhh, I have a cpap for a few months now. It never occurred to me that I can now pull the covers over my head and not suffocate! 😄
I’m sold. Where do I sign up for sleep apnea?
Just fucking shoot me already jesus
I wonder if Jesus knew how to use a gun.
Take and absorb this bullet, as it is my bullet.
