The after-credits scene in “Four and a half Vulcans” is comedy gold.
Pure cringe tbh. But just the cherry on top of a very questionable and cringy episode.
4 and a half vulcans fucked up so bad, they buried the lede to play haha funny vulcan arseholes.
Their behaviour was literally modelled on Spock’s memories and perceptions. The xenophobia, the supremacist mindset, this was all from a man who was rejected repeatedly and savagely by a culture his biology demanded he closely associate with. And they threw it like a technobabble handwave instead of an exploration of empathy and prejudice and they did this LITERALLY after the ep where he mentions mutilating himself as a child to “cut the human out”
He’s been so fucked up by half of his own people that simply emulating his lived experience literally stripped empathy, loyalty, compassion and friendship from four of his closest friends and companions. The psychological implications are staggering. And don’t get me started on his romantic partner becoming a conniving betrayer because daaaaamn boy.
And then they have Doug. Doug the vulcan. Whose family is “drawn to human names”, who is so into a non-Vulcan woman it’s practically rolling out on the floor, who is in AWE of Spock’s human abilities, whose family have very clearly embraced IDIC to the fullest extent. This could have been Spock unlearning the self-hatred others embedded in him, instead it’s treated as a joke. “Help me fix this problem and i’ll fill your fetish”.
And then at the end Spock EXCUSES SHITTY VULCAN BEHAVIOUR. Jesus christ.
But the episode fits in nicely withe the rest of the season.
“and I mean that as a slur!”
I was so upset they wasted him on that character. Patton Oswalt is a gem, he deserves minimum a small arc or reoccurring guest role. His one episode guest on parks and rec was spectacular as a comparison.
who knows what kind of time commitment he had to offer them though?
I didn’t know Vinnie paz did a trek cameo!?
As long as I get my lanyard everything will be ok.
