The Senate has rejected legislation to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits, essentially guaranteeing that millions of Americans will see a steep rise in costs at the beginning of the year.
So your friends are Republicans and you think the Dems did the right thing backing down on healthcare subsidies? Sounds like you are your Republican friends bud
Yeah, totally republican ass mentality to want to keep subsidies for people instead of caving on a vote that will totes happen. You ever think ‘their interests’ is having healthcare subsidies? Or do you assume the worst unless someone breaks out the crayons?
Fucking copium, my dude. My family has snap benefits and medicaid, and it would have been in my best long term interests for the government to stay shut down until the republicans caved and let the democrats help people. It was going to be a hard couple of months, but I was hoping my reps would have the stones to fight for their constituents, instead of rolling over (as is tradition) and letting the republicans have another win and take more from the people who have the least.
But hey, good thing they thought of the best interests of the economy and wall street. They’re the real ones hurt during these shutdowns. 🙄
It’s a Republican ass mentality to say it serves me me me. If the user had said it was for the greater good because of subsidies and Trump and what not, I wouldn’t have left the comment I did. But they said it serves me me me and they don’t care about any of the people genuinely affected by the government shutdown.
The opinion is not republican, but the behavior is 100% republican.
Edit: It’s also worth noting my original comment that started all this.
Imagine if the government was still shut down and we still didn’t have these subsidies.
So the user’s reply to that comment was to say he didn’t care about the subsidies or shutdown cause it benefited them.
You’re turned around here bro, we all wanted the shutdown to continue so we could continue to have affordable healthcare, we wanted it for everyone, the wording above is throwing you because it’s one person saying that the shutdown was something that could have benefitted them, but it’s not a matter of selfishness, it’s literally a broad, life-saving program. (The ACA tax subsidies.)
If you were against the shuttdown… well it must be nice to afford premium healthcare or be on someone else’s policy.
You’re being deliberately obtuse then. Participating in bad faith, just looking for someone to call “republican” to stir up drama. This is why you’re getting downvoted by like… everyone. You’re coming across as deliberately being an ass. In case you’re wondering. I won’t see your reply.
I think you’re making significantly more out of my comment than what was actually said. I responded to a guy saying “me me me” with “you sound like a different group of people that also say me me me”. Any deeper meaning you are giving to that comment is on you.
As for downvotes, I clearly don’t care. Lemmy users tend to be wildly unrealistic when it comes to what democrats should do. I’m fine with getting downvoted for going against the grain. Somebody has to or this echo chamber will spiral out of control.
Sound like all my Republican friends.

It serves my interests so we should do that. That’s some Republican ass mentality.

You’re either lost or misinterpreted the comment, or don’t understand what the shutdown was about.
Nah, my Republican friends are selfish and would say something like “it serves my best interest” so we should keep doing that.

You must be turned around cause that’s not the words the user wrote. If it was, I wouldn’t have written my comment.
