This was taken in near total darkness, with a hand held, 300mm 1 second exposure. I love this camera and lens!
And thank you to the Tawny, who was happy staying perfectly still for my long exposure :)

If not owl, why owl shaped?
They’re cryptid owls! :)
Which camera and lens?
An OM-1 Mark II, with a M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F4.0 IS PRO lens.
Thanks!
Owls would begrudgingly approve of their stick mimicry.

Also, stop sleeping on the nightjar family. Suspected of being closer relatives to our owl friends, and they have some great examples like this dragon-bird hybrid, the Great Eared Nightjar.

A stick dragon bird (* __ *) You should post this picture on [email protected] as the perfect pet!
Potoo is another stick bird. I couldn’t find any with the babies doing it, but I find a baby potoo learning how to play stick early on.

That’s a baby Night Fury
It sure looks the part!

I get you. It would be too bad the mods miss such a great bird!
It’s the frogmouth that gives it away😄
Who cares about such minor technicalities. We love frogmouths and it’s great that you offered original content.
