Change marks an abrupt end to 30 years of established medical guidance and follows vote earlier this month
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday ended a long-standing recommendation that all US newborns receive the hepatitis B vaccine.
The agency’s move follows a vote from health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr.’s vaccine advisory panel that a birth dose should only be given to newborns whose mothers test positive for hepatitis B or whose status is unknown.
The CDC will now advise parents to consult a healthcare provider to decide whether infants born to hepatitis B-negative mothers should get the vaccine, including the birth dose.
Every time I hear about these anti-vax idiots, I immediately think of a family friend who was ever so unlucky to get Polio before the vaccine for it got to her community. She spent time in an iron lung, but “survived”. And by survive, I mean she lived but basically lost the use of her left arm, has trouble walking, has no depth perception and has been dependent on others he whole life. She has survived into her late 70’s now, but she’s well aware that post-polio syndrome could crop up at any minute and take her out. But ya, let’s believe some junk science on how bad vaccines are. Fuck RFK and fuck every one of these assholes who want to kill children to satisfy their egos.
The most banal evil in anti-vaxxers is their lack of imagination and curiosity. They have lived cluelessly benefiting from generations of rational health policy for their entire lives, and now simply are incapable of imagining either the need for scientific rigor or stories like yours - tragedies that were undeniable cautionary experiences all of society shared only 60 or 70 years ago.
Add in their utter lack of epidemiological scientific awareness, and they also can’t fathom the macro level of suffering they are causing. Just all around the worst possible people for these jobs, uniquely adapted to cause the most harm.
