No dude. This wasnāt some made up charge for a bullshit crime. The fucking world saw what he said, what he did, and didnāt do, and multiple people died because of his actions. He should have been put in prison until his day in court, like anyone else would have been. Having the money to run for political office isnāt a means of avoiding justice
I agree. He should have been tried, and convicted, and put in prison. It was a miscarriage of justice that he was not. But even if all that had happened, it shouldnāt make someone ineligible for office, otherwise it could be abused by a corrupt government. Ideally it would make someone unqualified in the eyes of the electorate, butā¦ well I wouldnāt count on it these days, unfortunately.

This isnāt even a hypothetical. There are countries, such as Russia, that actually do this.
When your country is corrupt enough so you can just put a fake charge on a person and make it stick, youāre done already, rules donāt matter. This rule only relevant in cases when judiciary system actually works and works independently of current leader.
This rule will help those who follow the rules, and donāt stop those who donāt, so overall itās a good rule.

Yes, and his statement implied that a bad faith actor could just make up charges and have them filled against any political opponents to prohibit them from running for office. That would not have been the case for Trump. He broke the fucking law in plain sight for the world to see, then the judges he appointed intentionally prevented him from having to face justice for his actions.
Running for political office isnāt an excuse to avoid justice.
