U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested Sunday that the United States would not take a day-to-day role in governing Venezuela other than enforcing an existing “oil quarantine” on the country, a turnaround after President Donald Trump announced a day earlier that the U.S. would be running Venezuela following its ouster of leader Nicolás Maduro.
Rubio’s statements on TV talk shows seemed designed to temper concerns about whether the assertive American action to achieve regime change might again produce a prolonged foreign intervention or failed attempt at nation-building.
They stood in contrast to Trump’s broad but vague claims that the U.S. would at least temporarily “run” the oil-rich nation — comments that suggested some sort of governing structure under which Caracas would be controlled by Washington.
But Rubio offered a more nuanced take, saying the U.S. would continue to enforce an oil quarantine that was already in place on sanctioned tankers before Maduro was removed from power early Saturday and use that leverage as a means to press for policy changes in Venezuela.

Its amazing how this is a positive change to the narrative and yet the people on here, who arent even Venezuelan, will still bitch about it like its gotten worse.
Fuck US intervention, but its seems most Venezuelans are happy Maduro has been ousted. Let’s hope the interim president can keep their shit together and keep the US out as much as possible.
I doubt most Venezuelans will appreciate an oil “quarantine” which will further stress there already strained economy.
Most Venezuelans in the US are happy because they tend to be the wealthier middle class that could afford to leave and hate Maduro, for some valid reasons.
It’d be like if Trump took over and you only listened to the US expat community in Canada. Everyone there would cheer Trump’s death, even if it was by foreign imperialist hands, but that wouldn’t be an accurate view of what all Americans think of Trump. Most would be mad if Xi assassinated trump, even if they didn’t like him personally.
In Venezuela the people are more split on Maduro but if the choice is between him and some US backed regime that siezes the oil and gives it to Exxon then most are going to side with Maduro.
Stop talking.
Please. You don’t get it, you’re not Venezuelan. Then shut up.
Your comment was awfully racist, xenophobic and classist. Just stop.
If you disagree about the US dictating what Venezuela does through violence and threats. Then lead by example and stop being the dumb gringo that pretends to know what foreigners think and do better than them. Stop.
