Leader of former Danish colony, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, condemns US ‘threats’ as Nordic neighbours offer support
Greenland has urged Donald Trump to give up his “fantasies about annexation” after the US president, fresh from his military operation in Venezuela, again threatened to take over the Arctic territory.
In a bracingly direct statement, the Greenlandic prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, accused the US of “completely and utterly unacceptable” rhetoric, declaring: “Enough is enough.”
On Sunday, Trump said the US needed Greenland “very badly” – renewing fears of a US invasion of the largely autonomous island, which is a former Danish colony and remains part of the Danish kingdom. Greenland’s foreign and security policy continues to be controlled by Copenhagen.

Why, is anyone actually going to do anything about it?
All evidence points to no.
NATO would theoretically be obliged to assist Denmark if it triggered Article 5.
Very very very theoretically
Maybe they go out for a stroll that day.
Nato would collapse, but it would be funny if Sweden and Finland having to invade Washington just months after joining.
Everyone needs to expel us bases for national security and sell all their bonds and securities.
Mmm, maybe.
Venezuela isn’t being strongly protested because the guy they just deposed failed to win the last election and stayed in power anyway.
If he starts actually waving his dick around near Greenland, he can’t pretend he’s a liberator instead of a bully, and they’ll just be seen as the peaceful underdog. I suspect we’ll see action from the nordic countries if not actual action from the EU.
All it would take is a loaner nuke from France.
