For maga, plastic surgery is virtue signaling. Since they have the money to spend on “looking their best” they do so in the most visible way since money is morality to these fucks.

Doesn’t “have the money” for plastic surgery imply good surgery? All these people look like they got TEMU lips and Great Value noses.

You’re silly. “Good plastic surgery” is the kind of surgery that makes you more ‘pretty’ without people noticing that it’s actually fake. How are people supposed to notice that you got the money for plastic surgery if the surgery is so good that people wouldn’t notice?

Somehow this reminds me of the Demons in Frieren the Slayer.

Even though suppressing their mana output at rest would be tactically better, because it would allow surprising enemies in fights, they can’t do that because they use the display of mana to signal status in the demon hierarchy.

Sorry if that was cringe to bring up. I’m hoping at least some readers will be familiar and find the comparison funny.

That’s the look. The point isn’t to get subtle beauty enhancement. The point is to look like you’ve had plastic surgery.

It’s tacky to me, but I’m not going to fault their culture. As long as it’s being done with full knowledge and consent, and not under outside pressure.
