The question has been framed in the streets: is a government that impoverishes healthcare and nutrition, flouts the law, enriches its officials, imprisons babies, and kills its citizens worth the money it collects, much less the respect and obedience it demands?

Democrats have nothing to lose by shutting down the government to force the majority party to respond to these questions and the one that looms over all: what, if any, is the political and moral future of the US?

The resulting power vacuum would result in something far worse. Our best chance is to revive this dead democracy and fix the shit that allowed this to happen.

I don’t think that’s possible though with this electorate.

Personally, I think that a future incarnation of the United States can be one nation, but divided into four regions, each with their own president and branches. Western, Middle, Eastern, and Outer America. The outer region is places outside of the contiguous US, such as Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, military bases like Djibouti, Greenland, and so forth.

These presidents can elect a Figurehead President, who heads the national executive for one term, and no more. Each region donates soldiers and other resources to the national government, and the national court is expanded to have an equal number of justices from each region. I am thinking about 21 justices - 4 from each region, and each president selecting a justice who represents their executive branch during the tenure of their president.

This would make it much harder for any one faction to have controlling power over politics, and make genuine collaboration much more likely.

“Burn it all down” is a simplistic, unrealistic strategy. It’s said more to express frustration than to suggest serious policy.

Specially the RNC branch of the DNC. Specially important to not allow people with repeated last names or family ties to be president. There’s plenty of last names that haven’t had a turn at being president. Also we need a woman president and quick!

Very serious. The RNC branch with all their ballot conspiracy and murderous actions should step aside so that someone can fix their mess. Like when Gramps spills a glass of milk on the table because he soiled himself. Grandpa RNC just needs his fox news and a few pills. The rest of us gotta clean that shit up and move on…don’t let Gramp’s back in the kitchen. The shit economy is going to shit because of the RNC branch. Hopefully we get women candidates that are not crazy pedophiles. No more white guys for president unless we vote for them… We as in all of us not some representative assholes that the RNC can just gerrymander to get the votes they need. Stay out of the government and out of our neighborhoods.

The “evil DNC” ran two women. Progressives refused to vote for either. Funnily enough, an old white man did win.

. The RNC branch with all their ballot conspiracy

              What ballot conspiracy?

              murderous actions

              Again, what?

              Gramps

I find it amusing when old age suddenly becomes no big deal when we’re talking about Bernie.

The shit economy is going to shit because of the RNC branch.

The economy is shit because of Republicans and their idiotic tariffs. It was growing under Biden, not really sure how this criticism makes sense.

And yet progressives have hated Biden since always. The constant racism disguised as “gaffes from crazy uncle Joe-- he just doesnt understand that he’s flirting with KKK types” and his authoring civil asset forfeiture to pantomime some tough on crime shtick, and his money stream form AIPAC showed anyone that was paying attention that he was an absolute idiot. Sure some progressives votes for him in 2000 to get rid of trump, but that was because they had little choice in the matter. The “uncommitted” vote in 2024 in the dem primary was all progressives too.

Hillary lost because of the rage around her shanking Bernie in the primary. Kamala lost because she wouldnt disavow her support for genocide and flirting with right wingers to keep progressive voices down. if you want to distill that down to simply them being female and no other reason, I guess good luck with that-- live in whatever fantasy world you need to in order to keep from experiencing any cognitive dissonance. I’m beyond caring about other peoples accusations. This is a “you” problem.

No but nobody is deluded about the RNC being better except maga cult members (don’t take my word for it, look at the polling) and I think we can all agree reaching them is a waste of time vs organizing around creating an actual opposition party.

Ok, so discourage people from voting for Democrats, what happens? You support the worse (not by a little by the way, by a TON) option.

            creating an actual opposition party.

Just like in 2016 and 2024. We’ll just make sure the government stays in Republican hands until we create out mythical perfect party. We’re so smart.

You have such a tiny worldview, but whatever go on believing that, people like you are becoming an endangered species. Your ideology allows for no change, everything is perfectly fragile and if we make any move to demand better we will certainly shatter it all as far as you are concerned.

Save your breath and get out of the way.
