Its also the voter base. Many have never had better options offered to them. An attack on their cars is ab attack on their freedom. I think in our digitl age we have also become more selfish and more wary of others. We don’t want to risk catching a cold/flu/covid on public transit. We want control of our own climate in our cars, we want control of what is on the radio. We want tinted windows so the public can’t put a face to that little mistake at the stop sign.

A big part of this could change. People loved the outdoor patios and closed streets some cities did during covid but “we can only have this little treat when an emergency calls for it, the street is only really meant for cars” becomes the mentality.
